Facts and myths about eating
For sure you have heard that you shouldn’t eat a tomato and a cucumber together or that you should eat as many fish as possible. The internet overwhelms with different types of eating rules that we all blindly believe in to be healthier, more beautiful and slimmer … But are they true? Maybe these are just the myths? Let’s check it out.
We should eat up to 5 eggs a week.
The eggs contain a lot of essential nutrients needed to maintain a good health. They are particularly rich in iron, zinc, phosphorus, selenium, vitamins A and D, B vitamins and choline. However, they have a high cholesterol. Should you then avoid them? No. Many scientists point out that the cholesterol contained in eggs does not have the same negative effects on health as the one originating, for example, from butter. If we are healthy, we can eat eggs and not worry about cholesterol!
Pasta makes you fat.
Contrary to the popular belief, pasta is a source of vitamins and is not fat. However, keep in mind some important rules. First of all, let’s look at what you are adding to it. All these fatty, creamy sauces are the ones that are actually making you gain on weight. Also remember to prepare your pasta al-dente in order to lower the glycemic index, which helps to maintain slim figure.
We should not combine cucumber with tomato.
Cucumber contains ascorbic enzyme (ascorbins), which destroys vitamin C contained in tomatoes. If you eat them separately, they are both excellent low calorie foods that contain important vitamins and minerals. The combination of cucumber with tomato does not hurt, but it also does not bring any benefit.
We should eat as many fish as possible.
Fish living in high toxicity tanks are accumulating dioxins and heavy metals such as lead and mercury. Therefore a tuna or an anchovy can be harmful to your health. Pregnant women should avoid fish consumption to once a week and children under the age of two should not eat them at all. It is the best to eat sardines, salmon, herring and Atlantic mackerel because they are low in mercury and high in omega-3 . Let’s eat fish, but according to recommendations. Best once a week, possibly twice – once sea fish and once freshwater fish!
Drinking cola is good for food poisoning.
It is worth mentioning that it is not a healthy drink. It contains a lot of carbohydrates, caffeine and preservatives. However, drinking it after eating too much causes an acidification of the pH of the gastric juices, which helps digest heavy meals (dairy, meat) when suffering from a food poisoning. So we say yes to Coca-Cola, but only in case of an indigestion and in small amounts.
